For Family Home evening tonight, I wanted to show my children that they really are so blessed & have a lot to be grateful for. We started by talking about Rudolf the red nosed reindeer & how he was different. I told them how important it was to never make fun of someone else because they looked or acted differently! We then made these fun little reindeer cookies. They are really easy & the kids loved the decorating part.
We then talked about how we are all born into different families and different circumstances. I told them about the Polinsky Center that is close by. I told them that an upwards of 300 children a month are brought into the center because of abuse or neglect in the home. The girls couldn't believe that they would be there during Christmas. So, we gathered up presents and headed down to the center. I really had a prayer in my heart that something would hopefully affect them and make them grateful for all that they have been given.
Funny note as we were leaving - Parker grabbed his gift and headed out the door. I grabbed it back and said that we needed to leave it for the children that don't have any presents. He got so mad and punched me on the knee. Doesn't quite get it yet!

Love the cookies I'll have to make them with the kids. You always have such cute holiday treats. Way to go w/ the gift giving. It's so important to do those things and teach our kids how great it feels to give. It's my favorite thing about Christmas time.
I really want the recipe for these! those are so cute!
Tell me he did not punch you in the bad knee??? Boys are great. He and Sam would get along sooooooo well.
Good Job Heather...were they all so happy to see you guys???
Ok...you guys are so great! What a great idea! Were you guys able to actually give them to the kids or just leave them with someone? I would love to do that! Cookies are adorable, family is adorable and the Parker story literally made me laugh out loud!! He'll get it sooner or later!

What a great thing to do. Even if the little man didn't quite get it yet, he will with such wonderful examples around. And you just reminded me of a place we can do that for, so thanks!
